Go to the Beach and Markets

Take a stroll around the South Bank Parklands and take a dip at the man made, Streets Beach. A beautiful lagoon complete with white sandy beachs. Watch out for the free movie nights, held throughout the Summer months.

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday visit The South Bank Lifestyle Markets, Moonlight Markets run till 10pm on a Friday
See the Brisbane Gardens

Take a walk in the City Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Gardens are right next to the CBD and have amazing views of the river and a huge array of flora with educational displays
Have a wander around the world's largest subtropical city gardens at Roma Street Parklands

Free things to do in Brisbane

  • Take a self-guided tour along the Albert Street Literary Walk
  • Visit City Hall Visitor Experience Centre, King George Square, Brisbane. Open Monday to Friday, 10am - 4pm (excluding public holidays).
  • The Valley (Fortitude Valley) is Brisbane's dedicated entertainment precinct and a great place to shop, dine or just kick back and watch the world go by.
  • Go for a bike ride or picnic around the Kangaroo Point parklands. The floodlit cliffs are accessible to rock climbers and abseilers, day and night.
  • Between the 7th and 28th September the Brisbane Festival kicks off with the spectacular "Santos GLNG City of Lights" a light laser, and special effects show presented nightly over the three weeks of the Festival. There are musical events, theatre, dance and circus acts as well as many other free performances.
  • The Queensland Music Festival is a held every 2 years. This year (2013) starting on the 12th July and running through to the 28th July. For more details please have a look at the Queensland Music Festival website: http://www.qmf.org.au
  • Join the UQ School of Music every Sunday,for a free concert at Customs House
